Yamahoko Map (Former Festival) of Gion Matsuri Festival
Yamahoko Map (Former Festival) uses Google Maps to show the location of the floats. Yamahoko (Yamaboko) floats are located in the area bounded by Higashinotoin-dori (east-west), Aburanokoji-dori (east-west), Takoyakushi-dori (north-south), and Matsubara-dori (north-south). Assembly of the floats begins on July 10th and is completed two to three days later, with Former Festival (Saki Matsuri) Yamahoko-Junko (Float Procession) taking place on July 17th. Dismantling of the floats begins immediately after the Yamahoko Junko is completed. Yamahoko (Yamaboko) can only be seen for about a week.

【Nagina Hoko (Nagina Boko,長刀鉾) on Shijo-dori】
- location: Nagina Hoko is located on Shijo-dori, about 90 meters east of the intersection of Karasuma-dori (north-south) and Shijo-dori (east-west). Nagina Hoko is located closest to Yasaka Shrine among the floats.
- Nagina Hoko is marked by a pillar extending into the sky and a great long sword at the tip. The great long sword exorcises plague and evil. Nagina Hoko is about 21.76 meters high, 6.42 meters long, 4.35 meters wide, weighs about 11.1 tons. (2008 Data) Nagina Hoko always lead the procession in Former Festival Yamahoko-Junko (Float Procession).
【Kanko Hoko (Kanko Boko,函谷鉾) on Shijo-dori】
- location: Kanko Hoko is located on Shijo-dori, about 90 meters west of the intersection of Karasuma-dori (north-south) and Shijo-dori (east-west). Kanko Hoko is located on the opposite side of Nagina Hoko, centered at the intersection of Shijo-Karasuma.
- Kanko Hoko is marked by a pillar extending into the sky, a crescent moon and a mountain at the tip. Kanko Hoko is about 24.17 meters high, 7.00 meters long, 3.95 meters wide, 11.39 tons in weight. (2008 Data) Kanko Hoko has a tapestry of important cultural properties. Kanko Hoko is always the 5th in the Former Festival Yamahoko-Junko (Float Procession).
【Kikusui Hoko (Kikusui Boko,菊水鉾) on Muromachi-dori】
- location: Kikusui Hoko is located on Muromachi-dori, about 60 meters north of the intersection of Muromachi-dori (north-south) and Shijo-dori (east-west).
- Kikusui Hoko is marked by a pillar extending into the sky and a 16-petaled chrysanthemum flower at the tip. Kikusui Hoko is about 25.00 meters high, 6.95 meters long, 3.95 meters wide, 10.31 tons in weight. (2008 Data) The name Kikusui Hoko comes from a well in the residence of the tea master Takeno Johou. Kikusui Hoko offers tea ceremonies during Former Festival Yoiyama.
Kikusui Hoko (Kikusui Boko,菊水鉾)
【Niwatori Hoko (Niwatori Boko,鶏鉾) on Muromachi-dori】
- location: Niwatori Hoko is located on Muromachi-dori, about 120 meters south of the intersection of Muromachi-dori (north-south) and Shijo-dori (east-west).
- Niwatori Hoko is marked by a pillar extending into the sky and a circle inside a triangle at the tip. Niwatori Hoko is about 23.88 meters high, 6.62 meters long, 3.70 meters wide, 9.42 tons in weight. (2008 Data) The child doll wears a crown decorated with a rooster.

【Tsuki Hoko (Tsuki Boko,月鉾) on Shijo-dori】
- location: Tsuki Hoko is located on Shijo-dori, about 70 meters west of the intersection of Muromachi-dori (north-south) and Shijo-dori (east-west).
- Tsuki Hoko is marked by a pillar extending into the sky and a new moon shape at the tip. Tsuki Hoko is about 26.77 meters high, 6.85 meters long, 4.10 meters wide, 11.88 tons in weight. (2008 Data) Tsuki Hoko is said to be the tallest and heaviest of all the floats. The child doll will be boarded on Tsuki Hoko.
【Hohka Hoko (Hohka Boko,放下鉾) on Shinmachi-dori】
- location: Hohka Hoko is located on Shinmachi-dori, about 40 meters north of the intersection of Shinmachi-dori (north-south) and Shijo-dori (east-west). Hohka Hoko is the only Hoko float built on Shinmachi-dori among the Hoko floats.
- Hohka Hoko is marked by a pillar extending into the sky, with the sun, moon, and stars at the tip. Hohka Hoko is about 24.60 meters high, 6.34 meters long, 3.80 meters wide, 10.32 tons in weight. (2008 Data) Hohka Hoko enshrines a priest in the middle of the pillar. Hohka Hoko is always the 21th in the Former Festival Yamahoko-Junko (Float Procession).
【Fune Hoko (Fune Boko,船鉾) on Shinmachi-dori】
- location: Fune Hoko is located on Shinmachi-dori, about 60 meters north of the intersection of Shinmachi-dori (north-south) and Bukkoji-dori (east-west).
- Fune Hoko is shaped like a ship. Fune Hoko and Ohfune Hoko are the only floats shaped like ship. Fune Hoko is about 6.60 meters high, 6.85 meters long, 3.30 meters wide, 8.41 tons in weight. (2008 Data) Fune Hoko has an imaginary golden bird at the bow and a beautiful rudder at the stern. Fune Hoko is always the 23th in the Former Festival Yamahoko-Junko (Float Procession).
【Iwato Yama (岩戸山) on Shinmachi-dori】
- location: Iwato Yama is located on Shinmachi-dori, about 90 meters south of the intersection of Shinmachi-dori (north-south) and Bukkoji-dori (east-west).
- Iwato Yama is marked by a pine tree stretching into the sky. Iwato Yama is about 14.045 meters high, 6.35 meters long, 3.90 meters wide, 8.25 tons gross weight. (2008 Data) Iwato Yama derives from the Japanese myth of Amano-Iwato. Iwato Yama enshrines Amaterasu, who is considered the ancestor of the emperor. Iwato Yama is always the 22th in the Former Festival Yamahoko-Junko (Float Procession).
【Aya Gasahoko (Aya Gasaboko,綾傘鉾) on:Ayanokoji-dori】
- location: Aya Gasahoko is located on Ayanokoji-dori, about 90 meters west of the intersection of Muromachi-dori (north-south) and Ayanokoji-dori (east-west).
- Aya Gasahoko is marked by an umbrella about 2.6 meters in diameter. Aya Gasahoko weighs about 0.36 tons. (2008 Data) Aya Gasahoko is an old-style float, along with Shijo Kasahoko. Gion Matsuri music is played and stick-flying dances is performed.

Shijo Kasahoko (Shijo Kasaboko,四条傘鉾)
【Hosho Yama (保昌山) on Higashinotoin-dori】
- location: Hosho Yama is located on Higashinotoin-dori, about 30 meters south of the intersection of Higashinotoin-dori (north-south) and Takatsuji-dori (east-west). Hosho Yama is located on the east side of Karasuma-dori with Nagina Hoko among the floats. It is also the most southerly of all the floats.
- Hosho Yama is marked by a pine tree stretching into the sky. Hosho Yama weighs about 0.67 tons. (2008 Data) Hosho Yama is named after the love story of Hirai Yasumasa and Izumishikibu. It is a blessing for matchmaking. The figure of Hirai Yasumasa wears armor and holds a stand heaped with red plum blossoms.
【Moso Yama (孟宗山) on Karasuma-dori】

【Urade Yama (占出山) on Nishikikoji-dori】

- Unlike other floats, Urade Yama is marked by a black pine tree extending into the sky. Urade Yama weighs about 0.51 tons. (2008 Data) Urade Yama is themed around Empress Jingu. The figure wears a gold raven hat and holds a fishing rod in his right hand and a fished sweetfish in his left.
【Yamabushi Yama (山伏山) on Muromachi-dori】
- location: Yamabushi Yama is located on Muromachi-dori, about 40 meters south of the intersection of Muromachi-dori (north-south) and Takoyakushi-dori (east-west). Yamabushi Yama is located on the northernmost side of Muromachi-dori.
- Yamabushi Yama is marked by a pine tree stretching into the sky. Yamabushi Yama weighs about 0.60 tons. (2008 Data) Yamabushi Yama derives its name from the sorcerer-monks. The figure is in the form of a mountain priest, holding a bead in his left hand, an axe in his right, and a conch at his waist.

(2008 Data) Arare Tenjin Yama is dedicated to Sugawara no Michizane, the god of learning. The statues of Sugawara no Michizane fell from the sky with hail.

There are two figure, one 160 cm tall and the other about 105 cm tall. The larger one has a hoe. The smaller one holds a fan in its right hand and red and white peonies in its left.

- Toro Yama is marked by a praying mantis. Toro Yama weighs about 1.22 tons. (2008 Data) Toro Yama head, sickle, wings, and the wheels of the imperial carriage move with a mechanism. The theme of Toro Yama is that of a weak man standing up to a strong man.
